The Slow Boat to Laos! (Vlog)

The Slow Boat in Laos is a two day journey between Huay Xai, on the border with Thailand, and Luang Prabang. We did it departing from Huay Xai, headed for Luang Prabang, but its possible to do it in either direction depending on how you're travelling! It stops for a night in the riverside town of Pak Beng, where you can restock on snacks and food for the next day, and where you also need to book a hostel for.

This vlog was extra fun to edit because the people we met on the slow boat, we ended up travelling the whole of Laos with, reuniting a month later with, and we are still currently with Alex, having done the whole of Vietnam together!

If you're thinking of doing the slowboat, get on with plenty to eat and drink, both something substantial like a sandwich, and some snacks. ALSO - when you get off the boat at Pak Beng, KEEP YOUR TICKET SAFE! Lots of people left their tickets on the boat seat, so they then had to pay AGAIN for the ride between Pak Beng and Luang Prabang! Some locals go only to Pak Beng, so it is possible to buy a ticket to Pak Beng, so you need your ticket again for the second day to avoid paying twice.
