"Not Necessarily the News" is a satirical news sketch comedy series that aired on HBO from 1982 to 1990. During its eight-year run, it won 14 Cable Ace Awards, including three Best Comedy Series (1983, 1984, 1985); a Writers Guild of America Best Writing Award for Comedy, Variety, Musical (1990); and a nomination for a Prime Time Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program in 1989 (the first year shows on cable were eligible for Emmy's).
