Stephen M. Vantassel, host of the Wildlife Control Consultant podcast, explains the complexity of trying to assign blame to the sudden illness experienced by cats (Felis domesticus). Stephen summarizes the information in an article by Valentina Meroa and Eric Dunayer who published an article in 2006 entitled, The 10 most common toxicoses in cats in the June edition of Veterinary Magazine pages 339-342. Their data which lists the top ten poisoning causes encountered in a clinic over 4 years. While today's top ten toxicant causes will likely be different, it should remind business owners and wildlife control operators of not jumping to conclusions when accused of a poisoning event. Poisoning causes include lilies, acetaminophen, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, amphetamines, potpourri, and antidepressant drugs.
