Always Been Here by Josh Gillespie - FAWM 2025

This was my sixth and final song for FAWM 2025 (February Album Writing Month). I meant to get to posted earlier, but I didn't have the time. I'm sure this will fire up some feelings. To close out my portion of FAWM 2025 I wrote a love song from the perspective of God. I dedicate this song to my LBGTQ+ friends and family. It's called "Always Been Here".

Always Been Here

I’ve known you longer than you know
Before the heavens came alive
A spark of light, a breath of hope
You were always on my mind

Traced your form from dust and stars
I knitted wonder in your veins
Through every triumph, every scar
I was there through joy and pain

There are those who twist my words
But my truth stands clear
Love your neighbor as yourself
I’ve made it loud to hear
No matter how you see yourself
No matter who you're holding tight
Straight or gay, I love you still
With a fire that burns so bright

I've seen the wars inside your mind
And the weight you try to hide
Yet through it all, you’ve never left
The beating rhythm of my time

You called for signs and screamed my name
In the silence, I replied
With every tear you thought was wasted
I was standing by your side
There are those who twist my words

But my truth stands clear
Love your neighbor as yourself
I have made it loud to hear
No matter how you see yourself
No matter who you're holding tight
Straight or gay, I love you still
With a fire that burns so bright

My love is all-embracing
As the river to the sea
I love you for who you are
And who you’re trying to be
You were made to break the chains
To rise above the fear and hate
No walls can stand, no lie remains
Love will be the only fate

So, when you doubt, when you fall
When the world breaks you down
