Walking downtown Chicago in the rain in this afternoon of early July, I took delight in the “romantic” and serene vibes of the streetscapes. My meandering walk covered the Loop andMichigan Avenue (including Magnificent Mille). The gloomy sky, the raindrops, the buildings, and the people walking with or without umbrellas…It created a soothing, energizing and inspiring atmosphere.
I am not sure how much the views seen along my walking routes express the beauty of the entire downtown Chicago, but I strolled about two hours and covered a long distance north and south of Chicago River.
Two iconic abstract works of public art—Flamingo and Picasso’s sculpture—were on my route. Even though in the rain, I still looked at the skyscrapers. They were too striking to miss. Flowers were everywhere. There were many people coming and going on Dearborn Street, Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue. Many of them should be on their way home from work. On Magnificent Mile, many people were supposedly shoppers and tourists.
I loved the rainy-day Chicago!
