Finally back after almost three months. On Sunday, March 10, I waited for the Union Pacific local that usually comes soon after the early afternoon Amtrak #11 Coast Starlight, but usually does switch work south of Abbott Street, not John Street, as these switch maneuvers are done on Thursdays, so I decided to take this opportunity to learn how these switching maneuvers are done.
0:00) The two locomotives, GP40-2 unit 1386, and GP-60 unit 1003 uncoupled from their train and switched onto the siding, and after passing the switch on the siding track, the conductor flips the switch and opens the gate to where two centerbeam cars sit. The locomotives then back up and couple up to the cars.
4:34) The two cars are pulled out and the train stops over the crossing to let the conductor throw the switch back to let the train reverse back to the first switch, and couple onto the main consist, and reverse so that the conductor can flip the switch back to the main line.
9:46) The train then begins moving back down the main line, but stops short of the crossing to let a crew member hop on the rear of the train.
12:03) The train begins moving again, now pulling a total of 19 various cars, with the mentioned crew member on the back.
