This study targets this myth specifically, but it is mentioned in many other studies by Stanford and others:
Does isolated myocardial bridge really interfere with coronary blood flow?

The number one myth about myocardial bridges is that they cannot cause symptoms because they only affect 15% of the heartbeat cycle (systole), while the artery is fully open for blood to flow through the other 85% of the time. The truth is that after the artery is compressed it does not simply pop back open again. Like a garden hose after you step on it, the artery keeps its compressed shape long after the heart squeezes each heartbeat. In some cases, the artery never reopens all the way before being squeezed again. This is exacerbated by high heart rate (tachycardia), which shortens the time for the artery to reopen even further. We need to spread the truth about this myth because it has kept thousands of people from getting the surgery they need, sometimes life-saving surgery.
