🕉 History & Significance

Fullara Maa Shakti Peeth
The Fullara (or Phullara) Temple located in Labpur, Birbhum district is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.

According to Hindu mythology, the lower lip (or “lower lip”– ‘hamsa’ – sometimes called ‘atahas’) of the goddess Sati fell at this site when Lord Shiva carried her corpse after her self-immolation.

In the temple, there is no conventional idol; rather a large sacred stone symbolises the goddess.

A big pond near the temple is associated with a legend that Lord Hanuman collected 108 blue lotuses from it for Rama’s worship of the goddess.

The place thus holds deep spiritual importance and draws many devotees, especially during the Magh Purnima fair.

This gives your viewers context on why this temple is special beyond just the visuals.

Kankalitala Temple
Located near Bolpur-Shantiniketan in Birbhum district, the Kankalitala Temple is also part of the 51 Shakti Peethas.

The legend states that the “waist” (kankal in Bengali) of Sati fell here.

• Wear modest clothing and carry a scarf/shawl when visiting temple-complexes.
• At Kankalitala, roads from Bolpur may have potholes – plan a little extra travel time.
