A man who was arrested for keying a Tesla car was confronted about his actions in a Chase Bank parking lot on March 16.
“Did you just key a Tesla the other day? You’re on video,” the recorder, who only wanted to be identified as Steve, said to the man.
The recorder said he confronted the man after seeing a video posted on Facebook of him keying a Tesla car on March 14 in a San Jose Costco parking lot, according to the owner of the Tesla.
The man denies he keyed the Tesla before getting into his Hyundai car and refusing to talk to the recorder further.
The recorder asks him: “Is it just because of Elon? You’re wearing a USA T-shirt, driving a Korean car. Why would you key an American car? The guy is probably a Democrat that owns it.”
In the video, the man is wearing the same jacket visible in the footage of the Tesla being keyed.
On March 17, San Jose Police Department Chief Paul Joseph confirmed the man had been arrested for “felony vandalism.”
