🌊 Incredible MW DX Catches by the Indian Ocean | Qodosen DX-286 picks up Ethiopia, Armenia and more!

This is my second medium wave (MW) DXing video from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), South Africa, recorded right by the Indian Ocean. I used the Qodosen DX-286 with only its internal ferrite antenna, placing it on the window sill of my fourth-floor hotel room, directly facing the ocean.

The ocean plays a powerful role in radio reception – sea water conducts radio waves extremely well, allowing MW signals to travel further with less loss. This helps to catch distant stations that you might not normally hear, even with a very basic antenna such as the internal ferrite in the Qodosen DX-286. I did try an external wire antenna (dropped out of the window) and the whip antenna, but they were too noisy. The ferrite antenna worked best.

Distances of signals caught range from 4000 km (2485 miles) to well over 8000 km (almost 5000 miles).

SBA Quran Radio – 882 kHz

Kossuth Rádió (Hungary) on 540 kHz
