Minister Kulman Ghising Terminates 12 Irrigation and 40 Road Contracts Over Delays

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has directed subordinate bodies to stop the practice of taking tenders without completing work, leaving projects in limbo.

As a result, 12 irrigation contracts in long-delayed projects under the Janata Flood Control Program, Field Office No. 2, Jaleshwar, Mahottari, have been terminated. Six more contracts for the Babai Irrigation Project are also slated for termination. Following ministry-level directives, the Janakpurdham Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project has begun seizing performance guarantees and evaluating the remaining work.

These irrigation contracts were originally signed between FY 2068/69 and 2074/75. Similarly, the process to terminate 40 additional stalled road and bridge contracts has started. The Road Division Offices in Tumlingtar, Ilam, Hetauda, and Nepalgunj announced on Sunday their plans to terminate 40 contracts in total—17 in Tumlingtar, 12 in Ilam, 7 in Hetauda, and 4 in Nepalgunj. Previously, 68 stalled contracts across various road division offices had already been targeted for termination.
