In this video I'm providing an overview of the Hammant and Morgan 'Duette' controller which I'm now using to power trains on my layout. This unit was probably the most successful in terms of controllers sold in the H&M range and as such it is still possible to find plenty of good examples on the second hand market. This is a resistance controller which was the most common method of controlling speed on model railways probably until the early 1980s. Hammant and Morgan also offered some more sophisticated controllers (Safety Minor, Powermaster, Executive) which were of the variable transformer or transistorized variety but these are difficult to find nowadays, at least in good condition. Needless to say that such was the reputation of Hammant and Morgan that Hornby snapped them up sometime in the late '80s/'90s as the market was changing with the increasing interest in dcc and used the H&M mantra on their 2000 double electronic dc controller.
