Items used with price breakdown below;
The Ikea unit used in this project was the Ikea Kaplan unit 42cm deep by 147cm wide. This was £40
The colour paint used on the walls/ unit was valspar b&Q paint colour matched farrow and ball colour "Drop cloth" I had this paint already so no extra cost.
The primer I used on the wood knots and Kallax unit was zinster bin primer. ( already had to hand)
The panelling is the mdf tongue and groove sheeting from Wickes. I needed 3x of these for this space. £22 each
I also used the tore skirting from b&Q x 1 £12
I used 2x wooden lengths of 2by4 costing £5 each
1x strip of 3mm wood in 2.4metre length for shelving £4.50
Wooden corbels was from Etsy costing £25 for all 6
Wooden pegs I had from a previous project that came from Etsy also.
The mdf top for bench cost £15 including the pre cut done by b&Q.
Screws I used were 70mm and cost £3
2x grab adhesive from b&Q £3
2x caulk from b&Q £1.50 each.
Corner trim £5
Internal corner trim £5
Baskets were from dunelm and £30 each so total cost for project was.
£312.50
The original quote to have this done professionally done was £2000.
I also could have shopped at local wood suppliers and the cost would have been less than b&Q.
This cost would have been £192.50 had I have decided to have the unit on its side and using hinges for the lid instead of baskets. I think this could look very nice but found this an easier option for each child to have their own individual basket.
