El Salvador blocks US Senator Hollen's visit to wrongfully deported man in mega-prison

Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen said on Thursday (April 17) that El Salvador's military denied him access to Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man wrongly deported and held in the notorious CECOT prison. “We were stopped by soldiers at a checkpoint about three kilometers from CECOT prison,” said Van Hollen during the news conference, “we were told by the soldiers that they had been ordered not to allow us to proceed any further than that point." The U.S. Supreme Court has directed the Trump administration to facilitate Abrego Garcia's return, after Washington acknowledged he was deported due to an administrative error.
