Dear friends, the scherzo has hardly found its way into the four-movement sonata cycle when it already begun to establish itself as a stand-alone character piece. All three of Schubert's Scherzi were written in the so-called "sonatas year" of 1817, a year where Schubert wrote as many as seven of his total of 21 piano sonatas. Please note that Schubert wrote his "Boogie-Woogie"-like Trio before Beethoven in his opus 111 - enjoy!
