Sengoku Basara 2 HD - Yoshihiro Shimazu | Story Mode

Here we play Yoshihiro, returning from SB1. He is absolutely terrible to play as. Like for real. I think he ended up being worse than Itsuki, all said and done. He's still not the worst in the game, oh no, we won't get to that until we get to Heroes. But he just does not work as intended.

Yoshihiro has a very basic S-string where he just slashes the sword the same way over and over, not at all taking advantage of his swords range. Also, if you miss the first swing, he won't continue the S-string and will just slam it into the ground and leave you wide open. His Basara is barely any different from his S-string and doesn't deal as much damage as a lot of other characters. His specials are okay, but they aren't particularly damaging and some of them are downright useless such as his yell. I usually stuck to a rushing attack where he dashes forward and does a horizontal swing and a lightning charge attack that deals decent damage. One of his specials has him yell which stuns peons and causes them to flee, but officers tend to shrug it off. I unlocked one noteworthy move in particular where he drinks sake and then charges up a swing. He's wide open during this attack but it will OHKO peons and take out 50% HP from any officers he hits with it. I tried to make this work a few times, but even on Normal, I got comboed enough to lose over half of my HP before the attack had even finished. And good luck getting it to hit to begin with.

1st stage is Kenshin's usual stage.

2nd stage is Motochika's SB1 stage, which is our first time seeing it here. This is a long stage, with a lot of musketeers on the beach that shoot you from behind fences. As you near the fortress, you first have to fight two of the statue mechs. There are some cannons nearby that can help you kill them but they aren't particularly effective. In the next area, there will be a Vertical Tank STOMP roaming around and also more cannons above you can use to take it down. I killed it with the cannons just give it a shot and it's kind of not worth the effort. The draw distance isn't the best so cannons kind of fail unless the enemy is in a very specific range. By the way, this took me a while to notice, but when STOMP is exploding it spits out a bunch of gold chest carrying peons as it begins to explode. I don't think I noticed it until way later in the game, maybe even in Heroes. After that, we fight Motochika himself alongside yet another mech, just like in Motochika's other stage.

3rd is Keiji's capital battle.

4th is fighting the Toyotomi on the high seas.

5th is Sekigahara. And boy let me tell you... Yoshihiro can't handle this stage. Seriously. I tried for 30 minutes to clear this stage. The dude cannot handle Tadakatsu and Ieyasu together. Hell, I'm not sure he could handle just Tadakatsu. The fact these two are supposed to be rivals is an insult to Tadakatsu. You see, Yoshihiro's S-string is too goddamn slow and narrow, you will pretty much always get hit when playing as him. Thing is, Tadakatsu hits like a high powered steampunk death machine because that's exactly what he is. You'll run out of HP well before Tadakatsu and Ieyasu do. This is 100% Yoshihiro's fault by the way, you saw me clear this stage on my first attempt with Xavi and Hanbe. You'll see me clear it on my first attempt with other characters later. It's only Yoshihiro I couldn't do it with.

So, I had to lower the difficulty and replay HIS ENTIRE STORY on Normal. Fought through 4 whole battles to get back up to this point and then out-statted Tadakatsu and Ieyasu. I dunno what they were thinking with Yoshihiro. They made a character that can't combo and can't dodge in a game about being fast and racking up a big combo. Egh. I'll be uploading another video after this showing all the failed attempts to beat Sekigahara, just so you can see exactly what I went through before resorting to lowering the difficulty.
