This production was taped at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx in July 1981. It was first shown on television part of the "Broadway on Showtime" series in October 1981.
In this number Missy (Rhetta Hughes) and Lutiebelle (Melba Moore) get to know one another, and soon Lutiebelle reveals her secret feelings about Purlie (Robert Guillaume).
