Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is a real-time strategy game developed by American TimeGate Studios. It was published in North America by Strategy First, and internationally by Ubisoft. Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns was first released on March 15, 2001 for Windows, and later that year for Linux.
In the game, the player takes the role of Darius Javidan, a titular Kohan. He is an immortal who has lost his memories. Darius must face the forces of the Dark Lord to save the land of Khaldun. On his journey, the meets other Kohans, some good, some evil.
The gameplay of Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns takes place in real time on an isometric map, but has a number of features more frequently found in turn-based strategy games: player have to conquer and expand cities, take control of resource despots, and recruit armies that come in regiments and need to be maintained with various resources.
Regiments can be customised, and need to be built from units made available by various structures that can be purchased within cities. Players can put a Kohan in charge of a regiment to improve its efficiency, use different formations to modify its speed and attack power, and need to restore regiments within the supply radius of a city or fort after a fight.
Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns received positive reviews, and was praised for its artificial intelligence and elimination of unit micromanagement. It was followed by a standalone expansion pack, Kohan: Ahriman's Gift as well as a sequel, Kohan II: Kings of War. TimeGate Studios' later adaption of Axis & Allies would also utilise many concepts from the Kohan series.
