The University of Chicago Department of Music is thrilled to share "Musical Moments," a socially distanced concert series that audiences can enjoy from their own homes. Showcasing students and faculty from the Department's Performance Programs, these virtual concerts feature music from a variety of composers, geographies, and periods.
This week's program spans traditions and centuries, from Caribbean folk music to 20th century classical. Members of the University Choirs open the program with French organist and composer Maurice Duruflé's setting of the Gregorian Chant, Ubi Caritas. Piano Program students Laura Sieh and Antony Simonoff perform the Classical and Neo-Classical music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Igor Stravinsky. Percussion Ensemble Director John Corkill showcases the marimba with a prelude by composer Michael Burritt, and the Afro-Cuban Folkloric Ensemble closes the program with a traditional song to the afro-Caribbean deity Orichaoko.
