Episode 1 - How horses learn through Trial & Error Learning.
Erica Poseley is a rider biomechanics expert who specializes in lunging riders to improve their seats. She is also a certified Ride With Your Mind coach. She is the first person in the United States to earn a Diploma of Equitation Science from Dr. Andrew Mclean’s International course on equine learning theory. Erica explains in this video how horses learn through operant conditioning, otherwise known as trial and error learning. She demonstrates the use of negative and positive reinforcement, which when used together is known as combined reinforcement. She shows how to train the first operant of stop and step back , and how to achieve a basic response on a very light pressure. That light response is essential for the welfare of the horse, and for the safety of the rider and handler.
