Qantas Business Class LAX to Melbourne — A Comfortable Start to Our Grand Tour

Hi, we're Eric and Shumly, and this video kicks off our New Zealand to Australia grand tour with a look at our Qantas Business Class flight from LAX to Melbourne. We’ve flown business class with a few different airlines, so we were excited to see how Qantas stacked up on this long-haul route.

There’s a lot to love here. The lie-flat bed was genuinely comfortable, and the seat controls were super intuitive. We got real rest, which made arriving in Australia feel a whole lot less exhausting. The crew was friendly and attentive, and the overall cabin atmosphere felt polished and calm.

That said, a few things left us wanting more. The seat layout was a little too open for our taste. If you’re looking for privacy, you might miss the more enclosed pod designs from airlines like KLM or Qatar. And while the food came with nice presentation, it leaned toward comfort food and felt a bit like an upscale TV dinner rather than a standout inflight meal.

Still, it was a smooth and restful flight, which is exactly what you want when starting a long trip. We’d fly Qantas again without hesitation, but next time we might choose based on how much privacy and culinary experience we’re in the mood for.
