Today on The Local Pickup, we're looking at a 1929 Gibson L-3, which was a higher-end parlor guitar by Gibson at the time. Its very similar cousin, the Gibson L-1, is often called the Robert Johnson Guitar because he's seen sitting with an L-1 in one of only three known pictures of him. This L-3 would have been one of the first Gibsons to not have the word "the" in the logo on the headstock. It plays well, and it has a very specific mid-y bite kind of sound that is reminiscent of the 20s. It is a fantastic piece of pre-Depression guitar history, so we're extremely happy to have it in the studio!
