These are circular or rectangular and traditionally hand-painted by artisans. The game became popular at the Mughal court, and lavish sets were made. The game later spread to the general public and inexpensive sets came into vogue. Typically Ganjifa cards have coloured backgrounds, with each suit having a different colour. Number of suits, cards, size, designs etc. can vary considerably depending on different types of Ganjifa and it is most noticeably made using traditional Pattachitra and Mysore art.
