Working for Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek, ''Law & Order''), the unit is charged with investigating cases considered particularly especially heinous. Their dogged pursuits are paired with auniquespecial level of concern and sympathy for the victims. Each episode features new crimes puzzles to solve, and new victims to avenge and as well as new emotional personal struggles for the detectives handling this emotionally draining taxing job.
