DESCRIPTION:

The RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line. It was considered one of the most luxurious ships of its time, alongside the renowned liners of the White Star Line such as the Titanic, Britannic, and Olympic. When World War I began, the Lusitania continued its transatlantic voyages despite increasing dangers. On May 7, 1915, it was struck by a German U-boat torpedo on its starboard side, which caused a massive explosion and rapid sinking.

The sinking of the Lusitania resulted in the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew, including 128 Americans. While it did not immediately cause the United States to enter World War I, the tragedy significantly shifted public opinion and was a key factor that eventually led to U.S. involvement in 1917.

This video depicts the final five minutes of the Lusitania as it descends into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.
