⁴ᴷ Hokkaido: Tomakomai Station (北海道: 苫小牧駅) - Japan Walking Tour (June, 2025)

To begin my journey around almost the entire island of Hokkaido, I took an 18-hour ferry ride and landed in Tomakomai. My first filming location was Hakodate, the southernmost city in Hokkaido.

From there, I traveled through Muroran and eventually made my way back to Tomakomai. Since it was a weekday, I spent the day working at a café near the station that had power outlets, and then headed out to walk around the city in the evening.

The last time I visited Tomakomai, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a light misty rain added to the quiet, subdued atmosphere of the city. This time, it was a Monday, so I expected the streets to be relatively empty. However, to my surprise, there were more people out and about than I had anticipated. I even saw street touts trying to attract customers, which reminded me that Tomakomai is indeed a lively gateway to Hokkaido.
