The Sony Walkman 4 (WM-4) is a second generation portable tape player from the Walkman line of personal stereos. It was manufactured in 1983. It wasn't of the same build quality as the first generation of Sony Walkmans (e.g., plastic cabinet in the 2nd generation vs. metal cabinet in the first) but it's still worth fixing and enjoying. I received this one in non-working order.
In this video I diagnose the problem, disassemble the Walkman 4, repair, clean and lubricate it, test it and re-assemble it. No other issues were found. It now works properly though it lacks a battery compartment cover which I didn't receive with it.
I have more Walkmans and tape players that need to be fixed. Perhaps I'll do them on YouTube too.
Incidentally, the really cool music is courtesy of YouTube. It's called "_Addis Ababa_" by The Mini Vandals. It puts me in the mood for Ethiopian Coffee, popcorn and incense.
