What if every ‘no’ wasn’t the end of the story. From being told she was too old to start dancing, to building a global children's dance company, and even facing multiple TEDx rejections, Katya shares how persistence, passion, and a little chutzpah can reframe rejection into opportunity. Katya Virshilas had her passion for dance ignited at the age of 13, which set her on a remarkable path and an exciting career.
After becoming a National Ballroom Champion, she gained widespread recognition as a professional dancer on the BBC's hit show, Strictly Come Dancing, and showcased her talent as a choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance. Katya has had the privilege of collaborating with renowned personalities such as Antonio Banderas, Richard Gere, and Jennifer Lopez, both as a dancer and choreographer for Hollywood films like Take The Lead and Shall We Dance. Her expertise and artistry have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
A veteran of ballroom dancing competitions and TV shows, Virshilas has found her calling: to break down gender stereotypes with her BallroomBees initiative that makes dance more accessible and inclusive for kids in Hong Kong and beyond.
