Why are so many people hating on ebikes?
You just can`t miss all the negative media coverage of illegal ebikes at the moment - last year it was exploding ebikes, now its illegal ebikes terrorising the streets and they should all be banned... gr....
There are definatly some very bad incidences of crime and injury caused by illegal ebikes, though not long ago the same issues were caused by Mopeds and two stroke motorbikes so these are not new problems.
Now, for sure, things need to be done - perhaps apply the existing laws??? But, and its a big but, if you swept away all ebikes tomorow the problems won`t go away, the bad people will just get back on mopeds as they did before - so why so much media coverage?
The Police could easily deal with delivery drivers and the like on illegal ebikes, town centres could easily be cleared of path riding kids (really not a new problem...) if cops were on the streets a bit more and the government could just block all UK sales and imports of any ebike of component capable of over 250 watts (similar to what they have done with ebike batteries recently).
But if the media storm continues we risk an outright ban of all ebikes, and the vast majority of them are 100% road legal and not driven by phone stealing gangs on pavements...
