The clinical profile of Minimal Brain Dysfunction (MBD), as described in mid-20th century literature, included children with normal intelligence but significant difficulties in attention, impulse control, coordination, and learning. Common features were hyperactivity, distractibility, poor concentration, clumsiness in fine and gross motor skills, language delays, perceptual problems, and emotional instability. These children often struggled with school performance despite not having major neurological damage. The presentation varied widely, ranging from mild learning difficulties to more pronounced behavioural disturbances. Today, this broad cluster of symptoms is more accurately classified under ADHD, specific learning disorders, or developmental coordination disorder, reflecting a shift toward precise diagnostic categories.
