Born in Lancashire, JOHN EMANUEL came to Cornwall in 1964 and moved to St Ives in 1980, working from the Porthmeor studio overlooking the beach previously used by the sculptor John Milne. Highly respected, with dozens of high profile exhibitions to his name, this magnificent send-off in the Mariner's Gallery at the St Ives Society of Artists https://stisa.co.uk where he was an honorary member shows how much the art community and his friends thought of him.
Self-taught, with no formal art training, John worked in a variety of media : charcoal, gouache, oils and latterly mixed media and lino-types. A painter and printmaker of figure subjects and the human form embraced by the landscape (especially Cornish landscapes), his preferred medium was oil paint.
