Reaffirming the national government’s commitment to peace, autonomy and inclusive development, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joins the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in celebrating its 7th Founding Anniversary at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC) in Cotabato City on January 21, 2026.
With the theme ‘BARMM 2026: Simbolo ng Pagkakaisa, Alaala sa mga Sakripisyo, at Pagpapatuloy ng Mas Matatag na Bangsamoro,’ the celebration opens with a parade and the symbolic beating of the gong.
The three-day celebration from January 21-23 highlights unity, honors shared sacrifices, and reinforces ongoing efforts toward a stronger and more resilient Bangsamoro. Activities include ceremonial turnovers, the distribution of assistance, and the rollout of programs and projects led by various Bangsamoro ministries, offices and agencies (BMOAs), in coordination with partner government institutions.
Established in 2019, BARMM was created following the ratification of Republic Act No. 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), through a legally binding two-part plebiscite. The BOL replaced the former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), establishing a new autonomous regional government with expanded self-governance powers and a parliamentary system of regional administration.
The creation of BARMM marked the culmination of decades-long peace negotiations between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), paving the way for a new framework of self-governance and lasting peace in the Region.
This milestone event reflects the shared commitment of the national government and the Bangsamoro Government to sustaining peace, strengthening regional autonomy, and advancing inclusive growth across BARMM.
