KTM SX and Husqvarna TC 50cc Motocross bikes are notorious for needing many more exhaust slicer packing replacements than bigger bikes. When the kid is learning to ride the bike it’s probably mostly a build-up of unburned 2-stroke oil due to lower revving and operational temperatures not being maintained. Later on when the kids are on the pipe and riding a lot more frequently, it’s probably heat and sheer volume of riding that does it. Either way it’s a job you need to get used to doing. The exhaust note increases to an annoying ‘twakky’ sound from the original deeper rasp, giving you an indication of when it’s time to replace. In terms of performance, one opinion is that new packing will offer more mid-range power and the saturated packing may only be a slight advantage on the very top end. I have no evidence supporting this theory.
