Ryan: Hey everybody, I'm Ryan. And here at etrailer we install parts, test fit them, and review them, that way we can help answer any questions those of you may have. And that's exactly what we're doing today. Today on our 2020 Nissan NV1500, we're going to be showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness. So we do get a lot of questions about being able to have a 7-way connector plug, as well as being able to use a brake controller. So this is one of the three components that you're going to need to be able to do that. If you want a 7-way plug, you're going to need to pick up an ETBC7.
And if you want to have that 7-way plug with a brake controller, you're going to have to pick up the ETBC7 as well as a brake controller. And a couple that I really like are the Tekonsha P2 and P3, they have a lot of adjustability and are really user-friendly.So a lot of our customers use these vehicles primarily for work, and a lot of them will tow a trailer with it. And with that, you're going to need some wiring to aluminate the lights on your trailer, that way you not only remain safe, but legal as well. Now today on our NV1500 our wiring is going to be stored inside of our vehicle, out of the elements, but it's going to be really easy to get to whenever you are ready to use it. You're just going to open up your doors, and then we can just grab our wiring here.
So the way this is going to work is you're just going to drape it outside and more or less close your door on it. Now that's perfectly acceptable, you're not going to hurt the wiring. One thing you do need to pay attention to though is you want to avoid the latch, you don't want it to get hung up in there. So once we have it draped over we can just close our door, and then we're ready to hook up to our trailer. Now, something I want to mention, if you would prefer to have your wiring kind of permanently mounted out here next to your hitch, that can be done. I did look inside for a factory grommet to be able to drop our wiring down through the bottom side so we could mount it out here, I really didn't find one that would work all too well.
So if that's something that you want to do, chances are pretty good you're probably going to have to drill a small hole and pick up a grommet. That way you can pass this wiring through and get it mounted. So I will say Tekonsha does make a really nice harness. It's one of my favorites and that's because it's very well built. Everything is put together really nicely and should last you a long time. I also really like the fact that they use a module box.
So what that module box is going to do is protect your Nissan's factory wiring if a short or something like that we're to occur on the trailer side. So it gives you a little peace of mind there knowing if something messes up on the trailer, you're not going to jeopardize your vehicle's factory wiring. Now I do suggest just to help keep this in working order longer, even though it does have a nice thick rubber dust cap, to apply some dielectric grease to the terminals occasionally. Especially for those of you that do end up mounting it outside in the elements, that dielectric grease is going to really help protect these terminals and keep them in good condition. So at the end of the day, a great solution for those of you that are needing some trailer wiring. Now, as far as the installation goes, some parts are really straightforward and easy, other parts are a little more difficult. Trying to run your wires through small openings can take a little bit of time, but as long as you stay patient and focused you should have no problem getting it done at home, in the garage, or maybe even in the driveway. Speaking of which let's go ahead and put this on together now.To begin our installation you're going to want to be at the back of your NV1500, can swing open our doors, and we're going to need to disconnect our taillight wiring harness which is located here on the inside just behind our taillights. So if you look right here, this is going to be our taillight connector. To make it a little easier to work with we can release it from the body of our vehicle. You can kind of just pinch down on that black tab there and that'll free it, then we're going to disconnect it. So simply push down on this center tab and pull the two apart. You can then
