While arranging all of Kind of Blue for my band, I stumbled upon a conundrum… if "So What" is supposed to be an exploration of Dorian mode, did Paul Chambers play the bass part wrong?
In the E-flat section of the head, he shifts notes that "should" be D-flats to be D naturals instead. Was it intentional? How can we tell, and what should a modern bass player do when approaching this tune?
