Kochi Castle Hanakairo – A Celebration of Flowers and Light
The Kochi Castle Hanakairo event was held at Kochi Castle in Kochi City from April 4 to April 6, 2025 (Reiwa 7). This annual event featured stunning ikebana arrangements from 15 different schools, beautifully decorating the area from Otemon Gate to Honmaru. The castle was adorned with these vibrant floral displays, creating a breathtakingly elegant atmosphere for visitors. Many tourists came to witness this spectacle.
At Kochi Castle, three performance stages were set up simultaneously:
Hana no Butai (Floral Stage) at Otemon Gate
Shiromi no Dan (Castle Viewing Stage) at Ninomaru
Seiden no Butai (Main Hall Stage) at Honmaru
Each stage hosted various performances that captivated audiences.
This video was created with the hope of sharing the passion of the performers and the emotions of the spectators with as many people as possible.
Regarding the video’s publication, we obtained permission from the dancer who performed Echigojishi (越後獅子) from the Hanayagi School of Japanese Dance. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Kochi Prefecture Japanese Dance Association for their kind cooperation.

The origins of Echigojishi trace back to a performer named Kakubei, who devised the tradition to help children suffering from poverty due to repeated flooding. Tragically, Kakubei was murdered. His surviving children tried to find the culprit by performing handstands—identifying the murderer by checking for missing toes that Kakubei had bitten off in self-defense. Over time, Echigojishi became widely popular, and encountering a Kakubei Lion Dance troupe during a journey was even considered a sign of good fortune.

高知市にある高知城で、高知城花回廊～和で綴る花と灯り～が令和７年４月４～６日に開催されました。本イベントでは、華道１５流派の生け花が高知城追手門前後付近から本丸までの間に鮮やかに彩られた生け花に高知城が華やかに飾られました。たくさんの観光客が訪れていました。
高知城では、同時に設置された華の舞台（追手門）、城見の段（二ノ丸）の会場、正殿の舞台（本丸）が設置され、そこでは、各種演目が披露され、観光客を魅了していました。
この動画は、演者の皆様の情熱と観客の感動を少しでも多くの皆様にお伝えできたらとの思いご紹介させていただきます。
