Prune in the winter - dormant season
When possible, prune 1/3 of the plant back to an ideal size each year in order to keep plenty of blooms.
Cut out dead wood, crisscross or rubbing branches, or damaged parts
Some thinning always helps with health
Shape and size can vary greatly, from a "tree" to a smaller, round bush...prune towards your space and preferred look
Lightly fertilize in later winter around the base of the plant.
