These talented artisans learn their traditional art from their parents & grandparents, and have passion to keep these handcrafted traditions alive.

One of the places we visited was the House of Makana Casa in a town called Gualaceo near Cuenca. Mr. José Jiménez & his wife Ana María Ulloa & their family specialize in ikat - a natural color tie-and-dye technique that weaves fine cotton to make makanas - the traditional shawl of Ecuador. It was very cool to tour their studio and amazing to see how they create beautiful symbols & nature patterns in the high quality products they weave.
