24hrs of Oakvalley 2020. Solo with Warren. 9th /128 (solo cat)
283km with 7000m of climbing
This was a tough one and the sweltering heat on both days didn't help. Cramps in the 1st 50km... can't remember when last I cramped. Snapped my chain at 90km, ran the next 7km... Chainring bolts stripped at 120km, finding gears on the tough climbs became very challenging. Mark removed the crank, made a temporary fix but I wasn't ready to give up. Chainring came loose on the next lap but oh well. It had to fall off before I'll stop. I dropped the pace not to snap the chain again and carried on as is. I didn't reach my 300km target but still happy with the results under those conditions. 280+km. Awake for 36hrs. Good enough to collect the Gold medal. Stoked. Warren also did well with 170km+ and picked up the silver medal with 16 laps. Learnt alot from this race and next time we'll be better prepared.
I had a 2 page, well prepared list for my nutrition which my support crew and I executed to the T. Thanks Mikie and Ashley, you guys rock. Thanks to wifey and kids for driving through on Sunday for their support. Always good to see them at these events. When i'm out training for so many hours, this is why i'm doing it. Thanks for the support babes. Our 4man team - E3M, thanks for your support throughout this weekend and to Mark for that refreshing cold shower at the end when I just abt collapsed...
Now a few days for some well deserved rest then it's time to get ready for the next one.
