The Government of Belize has officially launched a major national reforestation drive aimed at strengthening climate resilience and promoting sustainable development across the country.
Prime Minister John Briceño today joined Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, Orlando Habet, along with other ministry officials, for the launch of “Greening Belize: A Million Trees for Climate and Sustainable Development.” The initiative sets an ambitious goal of planting one million new trees nationwide by the year 2035. As part of the launch, a microgrants program was also introduced to support individuals and organizations within the Belize River Watershed who are engaged in conservation and reforestation efforts. The grants are intended to incentivize long-term forest preservation and community-led environmental action. Minister Orlando Habet says reforestation is critical to safeguarding Belize’s environment and future development.
