When Ana moved halfway across the world to Myanmar, she was certain she wouldn't be able to communicate with the locals in this new country. Fast forward five years, and she now frequently strikes up conversations with her next-door neighbor in Burmese, despite the occasional misunderstandings due to her still-developing language skills. In this talk, Ana shares her struggles, realizations, and reflections on learning a new language.
Ana Julia is a sophomore at YIS. An avid member of the YIS community, she has been involved in Model UN, Eagles Website and a multitude of other clubs, service groups and varsity sports! A language enthusiast herself, Burmese is her fourth language and she is always aspiring to learn more languages and different cultures at her leisure. Known for her loud voice on the volleyball court, she is keen on inspiring others to use their voice in this ever-developing world.
