Lightweight Sailboat Interior Build | Structural Furniture in Paulownia Timber
In this video, the lightweight interior build of the sailboat continues, using sustainably sourced 12mm Paulownia timber from New Zealand. Most of the interior furniture also plays a vital structural role, significantly contributing to the hull's overall stiffness and strength.
The galley and head—previously featured—are largely completed, and in this video, I focus on building the structure beneath the companionway. This includes the quarter berths and saloon seating/berths, which together form the longitudinal girders of the hull. These components add essential stiffness to the bottom hull panels.
For strength and durability, the Paulownia is reinforced with 400gsm double bias fiberglass cloth, with additional 400gsm unidirectional glass in key areas requiring extra reinforcement. All components are laminated using West System epoxy resin.
