Have a final working set of newly fabricated sunroof parts for an X300 and X308 Jaguar. The Drain Channel Supports are made in plastic, and the Driver Arm is made out of aluminum.
Apparently there is quite a bit of people that need this stuff as I have discovered over the 4 month and $4k life of this project!
There are 3 parts in total I have made up:
drain channel supports
sunroof driver arms
driven cable connector (This piece still needs some finessing for sizing and has some very small tolerances) The one one your car most likely is still in good shape and can be reused.
The parts in this video were installed on 10-July-2020, I would currently like to ensure that the plastic bits can withstand the baking hot summer sun before I would be comfortable letting any go.
That said if its only a broken driver arm you need we Jag folks are in luck, as those are definitely a good solid part ready to go! And remember, Jaguars ease the burden of travel.
**Update Fall 2021. I have been trying to master the sizes for the two aluminum driver arms, The issue I am having with the finished product is the need to file down a few of the surfaces just slightly to have it run buttery smooth in every position. I think it's as close as I can get it. There is better news though. I am currently making a set out of Stainless!! haha a million times stronger that the originals will have a much higher strength, Ultimate tensile would be over 900MPa Vs aluminum which is around 400MPa. The question is do we need it that strong??? Maybe not.
I am looking for ways to cut the cost of each metal piece, and Stainless is turning out to be cheaper believe it or not I can pump one of those out for just over $61USD a side stainless to break even. the aluminum is proving around $78 per side breaking even. I'd probably tack on $10 per piece so I don't give them away. But the folks are looking at $142/set Stainless, and $176/set aluminum.
In my opinion still pretty steep, given the 10 minutes of finishing with a file each one would need to smooth out any hickup's in application. That and stainless would be harder to file...
Doubt folks want to pay that.. I will keep trying to get cheaper. back soon on what stainless is like to work with!
