Sergei Prokofiev (27 April 1891–5 March 1953) – was a Soviet composer, pianist, and conductor. Prokofiev was born in Sontsovka (now Sontsivka, Pokrovsk Region, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine). As the creator of acknowledged masterpieces across numerous music genres, he is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century.
"In every fleeting vision I see worlds, Filled with the fickle play of rainbows" – lines from Konstantin Balmont's poem ''Mimolyotnosti'' which inspired Prokofiev to compose ''Visions fugitives''.
Visions fugitives, Op. 22, is a cycle of twenty piano miniatures by Sergei Prokofiev. They were written between 1915 and 1917, individually, many for specific friends of the composer, and premiered by him as a cycle lasting some twenty minutes on April 15, 1918, in Petrograd. Gutheil published both the piano set and the one piece for harp in 1917 in Moscow.
