Woodturning - Firewood gets fired up

Woodturning firewood such as pine comes with its challenges. It is typically softer meaning you are likely to experience some grain tear out no matter how much you try to avoid it. I found with this project plenty of sanding was required to remove the tear out, starting from 80 grit and working up to 400.

I have seen many YouTubers incorporate burning effects into their projects and wanted to try this for myself. I had a different vision on what I wanted to achieve but when the stripes started to come through I loved this effect and ran with it.

Today's project features wood from a neighboring tree which fell after a big storm. The majority will be used as firewood but I have saved a few pieces to for future wood turning projects.

All of the wood shown in my videos is locally and sustainability sourced. Many pieces include recycled native timber from items such as old furniture, house renovations, building demolitions and the occasional tree.
