Celebrate! A Street Party - June 7, 2009 - Disneyland

Celebrate! A Street Party began on March 27, 2009 and ran until November 11, 2010. Disney parks were running the "What will you Celebrate?" promotion in 2009, so at the start of the parade guests were asked what they are celebrating. This street party rolled through the park like a parade, but it wasn't listed as a parade, since it stopped, performed a show, and moved on. It began at It's a Small World and ended on Main Street (reversed if there were two parades). The "celebration zones" were on Small World Way, the Hub, and Main Street. If you were seated somewhere else, you would see this show roll by, but not stop.

The parade had 4 character balloon floats driven by a cast member. In between the balloon floats were three stage floats, which had a DJ, live characters, and an upstairs stage above the bottom stage. The floats were surrounded by dancers, bicyclists, and stilt walkers. This 12-minute street party featured 48 dancers, 12 stilt walkers, 12 bicycle chariot drivers, 3 DJs, and 24 Disney characters. Disney's new song for this celebration "Celebrate You" played at the end of this parade.

“Pumpin’ Up the Party” by Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) plays as the floats start coming out. The first balloon float drives past. A cast member is driving it. The balloons have Donald on top.
A stage with a DJ drives past next. It has Goofy, Clarabelle Cow, Pinocchio, Gheppeto, Pluto, and Clarice on it. Clarice is the chipmunk that Chip & Dale like in the cartoon Two Chips and a Miss. Love the throwback character!
Another balloon float passes, Mickey on top.
The next stage float passes with Mickey & Minnie, Chip & Dale, and Lilo & Stitch.
Another balloon float comes by and stops, Minnie on top.
The dancers/performers unpack the stages and set up for the party!
The DJ on the stage float asks, “What are you Celebrating?” They call out different celebrations. Screens above the stage say “CELEBRATE!” Tigger and Pooh walk by with Woody. They came off of the third stage, which did not pass us, but it's down the road.
The DJ plays “Jump With My Baby” (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy), and the dancers swing dance in their flashy vests. The screens say “JUMP!” Next a swing version of “I Wanna Be Like You” (Jungle Book) plays and the screens say “Let’s Swing!”
Next it is time to rock, as the DJs play “I Love Rock N Roll” (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts). Mickey and Minnie are in front us rocking out. Donald Duck & Daisy run by. The screens say “ROCK!”
Then we hear “Do You Wanna Dance” (The Mamas and the Papas), and the screens say “Do you wanna dance?” Following that they play “The Twist” (Chubby Checker) and kids are chosen to twist in the street.
The next part of the party goes Latin with “The Cup of Life” (Ricky Martin) playing and vibrant stilt walkers pass by. The screens say “CONGA!” Kids are chosen to conga around the float. Peter Pan walks by from the third stage. I'm glad we get to see all the characters, not just the ones on the stage closest to us. Fog sprays out of the stage floats.
It's party time and the DJ plays “You Can’t Stop the Beat” (Hairspray). The screens say “PARTY!” Bicycle chariots ride by with drums attached to the chariot. Disney characters strap into the platforms and play the drums. My kids are given a drumhead to bang. The bicycles start to drive the characters around the floats. Inflatable party tubes blow out from the stage floats. The dances play foam guitars. The screens say “CELEBRATE!” This finale is amazing, because ten things are happening at once, and I'm sure there was confetti somewhere because I could hear it but I couldn't see it in the video.
After all that, the dancers/performers pack up the floats and move on to the next celebration zone. “Celebrate You” (Corbin Bleu) plays, Disney's new song for the 2009 celebration.
We get to see the third Stage pass by with Tigger & Pooh, Woody, Peter Pan, Donald & Daisy.
The final balloon float passes with Goofy on top. The music changes to “Pumpin’ Up the Party”. The chariot bikes ride by last, followed by cast members with the rope marking the end of the parade.
