Enfant, le compositeur et musicien Mario Batkovic se rêvait guitar hero, mais son oncle lui a offert un accordéon pour ses quatre ans. Depuis, il a bouleversé les codes de son instrument et, en quelques albums radicaux et entêtants, a conquis le public avec sa musique hypnotique. Pour ce concert en live streaming dans l’exposition Sarah Sze, De nuit en jour à la Fondation Cartier, il a préparé un programme inédit.

Mario Batkovic est un compositeur représenté par Soundtrack Music Associates (Los Angeles) pour ses musiques de films et de jeux. En tant qu’artiste soliste, il est signé chez Invada Records (Royaume-Uni), un label fondé par Geoff Barrow (Portishead, BEAK).

Son premier album solo a été salué par la critique et le magazine Rolling Stone l'a notamment inscrit dans le top 10 des albums avant-gardistes de 2017. Batkovic tourne régulièrement, jouant dans le cadre de festivals tels que Bushfire (Afrique du Sud), Supersonic (Royaume-Uni), Le Guess Who (Pays-Bas) et le Montreux Jazz Festival. Il a contribué aux compositions de la bande originale de Red Dead Redemption 2, créé par Rock Star Games, qui était le jeu le plus vendu au monde en 2018.

Le projet de Batkovic consiste à explorer les possibilités sonores de l’accordéon, sans effet ni boucle mais à travers une relation symbiotique mutuelle entre l’homme et l’instrument. Surprenante, hypnotique et grandiose, la vision symphonique personnelle de Batkovic est certainement unique.

Il enregistre actuellement son nouvel album qui devrait sortir sur Invada Records en 2021.

Since then, he continues to challenge the perceptions and codes of the instrument and with just a handful of innovative and exciting albums, has won over the public with his hypnotic music. For this concert, live-streamed as part of the exhibition Sarah Sze, Night into Day at the Fondation Cartier, he has come up with a very special playlist.

Mario Batkovic is a composer, represented for film and game scores by Soundtrack Music Associates (Los Angeles). He is signed to Invada Records (UK) as a solo artist, a label founded by Geoff Barrow (Portishead, BEAK).

His debut solo album received widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone magazine listing it in the top 10 avant-garde albums of 2017. Batkovic tours consistently, playing festivals such as Bushfire (South Africa), Supersonic (UK), Le Guess Who (NL) and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He contributed compositions to the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption 2, created by Rock Star Games. It was best selling game worldwide in 2018.

Batkovic’s mission is to explore the sonic possibilities of the accordion, without effects or loops, rather through a mutualist symbiotic relationship between man and instrument. Challenging, hypnotic, and grandiose; Batkovic’s single-handed symphonic vision is certainly unique.

He is currently recording his new album which is due for release on Invada Records in 2021.
