There is also a fort near Agonda Beach in South Goa, which is sometimes referred to as a small fort or ruins near the beach, but Fort Aguada is the major, well-known historical landmark in Goa with the lighthouse.
Here is some information about Fort Aguada:
🏰 Fort Aguada, Goa
Fort Aguada is a massive, 17th-century Portuguese fort standing on the Sinquerim beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea and the mouth of the Mandovi River.
Name Origin: The name "Aguada" comes from the Portuguese word for water, as the fort had a large freshwater spring and a massive reservoir that supplied water to passing ships, making it one of the largest freshwater storages in Asia at the time.
Location: Candolim/Sinquerim, North Goa.
Built: 1612, by the Portuguese to defend against the Dutch and Maratha invaders.
Key Attractions:
The Fort Ramparts: Offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the coastline.
Aguada Lighthouse: Erected in 1864, it is one of the oldest of its kind in Asia.
Aguada Central Jail (Museum): Part of the fort complex, it was converted into a prison and now operates as a museum dedicated to the Goan freedom struggle.
🏖️ Agonda Fort (Cabo de Rama Fort)
If you are specifically interested in a fort near Agonda beach, the most prominent historic fort in that general Southern Goa area is Cabo de Rama Fort, which is about 15 km from Agonda beach.

History: It is one of the oldest forts in Goa, having been ruled by Hindu, Muslim, and finally Portuguese powers.
