Knowing what to expect brings some peace. In this video I explain how the final weeks tend to look for people with long, chronic, sometimes rare illnesses like MS, pulmonary fibrosis, Ehlers-Danlos complications, COPD, CHF, dementia, and more. These conditions have ups and downs over years, but at the very end, the patterns converge, more sleep than wake, very little eating or drinking, and a body that starts doing the work of dying for you. I also talk about the hard line between “treat” and “comfort,” when people choose to stop hospital runs, and how to plan so you can spend the time where you want to be.
