Revised Biography of Shaykh Mohammad Ozair Shams:
Shaykh Mohammad Ozair Shams was born in 1957 and belongs to a village in the district of Madhubani, Balkatwa. His father Shamsul Haq and grandfather Razaullah were distinguished scholars in their area. His father named him Ozair, but later he added “Mohammad” before and “Shams” after, hence he was named “Mohamad Ozair Shams.”
His studies
Shaykh Ozair Shams started his studies in Madrasah Faiz-e-Aam in Mau (UP) where he completed primary and also studied Persian. He started his Arabic studies in 1966 in Darul Uloom Ahmadiyyah Salafiah (Darbhanga, Bihar). He completed the second year of Arabic course in Dar Al-Hadith (Bel Danga, Murshidabad, Bengal). He continued his third and fourth years of Arabic studies in Madrasa Rahmania (Varanasi, UP).
In 1970, he entered Jamiah Salafiah (Varanasi) where he completed “Alimiyat” course in 4 years and “Fazeelat” course in 2 years, and he graduated from there in 1976. He also studied the English language along with Arabic and Islamic subjects.
After graduating from Jamiah Salafiah, he traveled for a year and a half visiting different libraries and universities in Delhi, Patna, Lucknow, Aligarh, Calcutta, and other cities. In this period, he met many scholars and observed many groups and organizations. During this period, he also worked as a cataloguer of Arabic manuscripts for about 4 months in “Khuda Bakhsh Library” (Patna).
During this time, he came to know that he was accepted in Madinah University, so he reached Madinah in February 1978. There he completed his BA in 4 years in Arabic Literature. For MA, he was accepted both in Madinah and Makkah (Umm Al-Qura University). He opted for Makkah where he studied for 4 years and completed his MA. The title of his thesis was “Impact of Arabic on Hali’s Poetry and Criticism”. During his MA, he worked as a cataloguer in Umm Al-Qura University.
What is to be mentioned is that he achieved the first position in his class each year in Madinah and Makkah.
After that, he registered for PhD on the topic “Arabic Poetry in India, Critical Analysis” and completed his thesis but could not submit it due to some differences with his supervisor. During this time, he also worked for various research institutes in Makkah, Madinah and Jeddah. Then he traveled to India, but soon returned to Makkah (1999) and joined a well-known publishing house, Dar ‘Alam al-Fawa’id as a research scholar.
His works during his studies at Madinah University
In Madinah University, he was particularly interested in 3 things:
1) Arabic Manuscripts: he spent 3 years working as a cataloguer of Arabic Manuscripts at the university library and got the opportunity to study many rare books.
2) Arabic poetry and literature: These were his subjects of specialization in BA. He studied old Arabic poetry and compiled poems of Jahili poet Ta’bbata Sharra.
3) Science of Hadith: He read many manuscripts regarding this topic. He edited the book “Al-La’ali Al-Manthurah fil Ahadith Al-Mashhurah” by Az-Zarkashi on the basis of several manuscripts.

*Please note that this is not his complete biography, it is just some part of it.
